Flights of Fantasy: The search for what´s feasible
An interdisciplinary design and realisation competition for students of architecture/construction and future master plasterers called for entrants to take an active approach to planning and conceptualising developments and requirements of the finishing sector. The participants were asked to consider how we will live and work in the future, and the role that our own “four walls” — or maybe more? — will play. And how can/will the interior sector develop?
The entrants to the competition, which was organised by the German Association of the Stucco Industry in the Central Association of the German Construction Industry, were asked to consider creative, unconventional ways of working and to come up with new options for stucco, plastering and dry construction that go beyond the limits of what is possible today. The framework for this process was an “ongoing workshop” shared by the colleges and master schools involved. Alongside the official aims, the participants were also encouraged to make useful contacts and break down hierarchies. The results of the competition will be presented by the entrants themselves at Paint — Finishing & Facade.
The participating institutions were the University of Bochum, Rosenheim and Karlsruhe; the master schools and training centres involved are based in Krefeld, Vilshofen and Heilbronn. The winning team, as selected by a panel of experts, can look forward to a special three-day seminar, and each team member will also receive a credit that is valid for his or her course of study or training.
